5Works great with late 2012 Mac mini
By Steven Tannehill
After confirming the specs on Apple's support website, I ordered this RAM for my late 2012 Mac mini. Installation was a breeze--flip the mini over, and turn the bottom panel counterclockwise an inch, remove the panel to expose the RAM slots. Pop out the old RAM then snap in the new RAM. Replace the bottom cover and twist it clockwise back into place. It couldn't have been easier.Considering that Apple wants $300 for 16 gigs of RAM (as opposed to nothing extra for 4 gigs), this is a great bargain.

5A possibly useful explanation for 27" iMac buyers
By Maynard Handley
Some buyers have expressed concern after buying this RAM and installing it in their iMacs (27" Ivy Bridge model, late 2012).That iMac is specced for DDR3 1600 RAM, and ships with RAM like that, but after you install this Corsair RAM your iMac will show that it is running aRAM at 1333 MHz, not 1600. So:(a) The reason this is happening is that DRAM is (to simplify things tremendously) described by two parameters. One is bandwidth (essentially how much data it can transfer per second), the other is latency (how long does it take to set things up before that data starts being transferred).(b) Your APPLE RAM in the iMac has a bandwidth of 1600MHz and a latency (CAS) of 11 cycles. The Corsair RAM has a bandwidth of 1600MHz and a latency (CAS) of 10 cycles.(c) Given that the two sets of RAM do not have identical specs, how should the memory controller configure things for optimal performance? The timings have to be identical for both sets of RAM, meaning they have to run with identical bandwidth and identical CAS.(d) The CORRECT solution in this case would be to run both at 1600MHz and CAS of 11. However the solution chosen by the memory controller (I am guessing this is handled automatically by Ivy Bridge, not by Apple firmware, but I honestly have no idea) is to retain a CAS of 10, and drop the bandwidth to 1333, which is slow enough that the Apple RAM can run at a CAS of 10 rather than 11.This is not a completely crazy solution. For most purposes, latency is more relevant to performance than bandwidth, so if you are faced with having to choose one over the other, you should choose to drop bandwidth while preserving latency. It's just unfortunate than in this case the algorithm (which, remember, has to work for the possibility of people plugging in four RAM DIMMs, possibly all from different manufacturers, with different bandwidths and latencies) chooses a solution that is slightly sub-optimal compared to the best possible solution.(e) Does it actually matter? Short answer: no. Neither Apple nor Corsair have lied to you about their RAM, and as a practical matter the difference in performance between CAS 10 and CAS 11 ram, or between running at 1600 vs 1333 is negligible (like 1%). Yes, you can undoubtedly craft some benchmark which is sensitive to the issue and which magnifies the problem, but for any real app it just doesn't matter. If you are so obsessive that you cannot stand this, if you buy a second batch of Corsair 16GB RAM and replace the Apple RAM, you will get back to 1600MHz, now at CAS 10 rather than CAS 11. But you honestly won't notice any performance difference.Bottom lines:- The extra RAM is nice --- it means paging on my iMac moves from being a rare occurrence to a non-existent occurrence, and allows that much more file system data to be stored in RAM;- iMac will show the speed of your combined system (if you bought only two sticks, not four) as 1333 MHz, not 1600;- There is no reason to be upset or worried about this. It does not mean anyone cheated you or that your system is running slower than it otherwise would.

5Excellent
By Trevor
Corsair has always been one of my go-to's for memory, and so far they've never let me down, this product included. I just purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad T430. The machine defaults with 4GB of RAM, and in order to upgrade to 16GB from Lenovo was over $800, which is obviously a huge profit center for them. So I ordered it with the default 4GB of RAM, and then ordered this Corsair kit for $120. It's a great deal. This is full speed 1600mhz DDR3. Mine was a perfectly matched set, the serial numbers were 1 apart so you know they were made at the same time and share the same nuances that will allow them to work well in Dual Channel. I've run multiple memory tests and stress tests on the machine overall and had absolutely zero problems. Having 16GB on my new laptop is really quite astounding, paired with a Core i7 and I'm able to run virtual machines effortlessly with no concern for memory. One little caveat for ThinkPad users, and this has absolutely nothing to do with the memory but I thought worth mentioning: If you're replacing both modules on a ThinkPad, one of them is under the keyboard, while the other is exposed through a hatch on the underside. It's not difficult to replace but should be done with care, be sure to follow the Lenovo service manual so you know which parts to remove in what order to gain access to the DIMM slot. Also worth noting is I was able to take the original 4GB DIMM that came with my laptop and place it in another to upgrade that system to 8GB, which would not have been possible if I bought the more expensive upgrade from Lenovo originally.

5This thing is FAST !
By R. Esperanzate
I bought this drive after using the Samsung 830 SSD on my MacBook Pro. That drive was fast and super reliable, hopefully the streak will continue with this one. On typical day to day operations, I don't really notice a difference between the two. Benchmarks using Black Magic Speed Tests show the following:Samsung 830 (256GB):Read: 468 MB/secWrite: 389 MB/secSamsung 840 Pro (256GB):Read: 512 MB/secWrite: 451 MB/secIf you are thinking about upgrading from an existing SSD, depending on your usage, it may not be worth it. But if you are going from a traditional HDD, go for it. You won't regret it.

5Top-notch performance and stability
By Eddie A.
The 128 GB version performs with remarkable speed and stability. After almost 2 weeks of very heavy use on a fresh install of Windows 7, I've experienced no issues. Samsung's 4th-generation 3-Core MDX Controller has been and still is at the top of the heap. Initially, the performance was lower than rated because I did not have AHCI mode enabled in my registry and BIOS, but after a couple of tweaks my benchmarks were impressive:Samsung SSD Magician v3.2 benchmarks:Seq Read 532Seq Write 379Ran Read 64378Ran Write 43474AS SSD Benchmarks:Seq Read 502.25 MB/s, Write 370.08 MB/s4K Read 29.13 MB/s, Write 53.99 MB/s4K-64Thrd Read 327.99 MB/s, Write 270.136 MB/s4K-64Thrd Read 83966 iops, Write 69153 iopsAcc.Time Read 0.083 ms, Write 0.060 msScore 981(screenshot posted of 2 benchmarks taken a week apart)This drive is a bit expensive (at the time of this review), but that is to be expected at this point. I purchased it elsewhere for a slightly better price and I did not hesitate buying it on the first day it was released. I also purchased a Silverstone SDP08 Bay Converter for it which fits nicely in my Asus case: SILVERSTONE SDP08 3.5 to 2 X 2.5-Inch Bay Converter. 5Corsair vs Crucial vs OCZ vs Samsung vs SanDisk - MacBook Pro Review

***UPDATE 12/31/12***Amazon keeps removing my links in this review, sorry. Also, I notice I had my read and write speeds flopped, this has since been corrected on all my reviews posted for each SSD.I am an avid MacBook Pro user and do a lot of hardware reviews for Apple products. I was able to get my hands on a dozen or so SSDs and test them out on a 2011 13" MacBook Pro and a 2012 13" MacBook Pro and have posted my results below on speeds, firmware and RMA.All test were done with the SSD installed in the Main HDD Bay1, not the Optical Bay with SATA III on both the 2011 and 2012 MacBook Pro's. 5Outstanding for CPU-intensive games and everything else
By Bryan
I recently upgraded from an AMD 955 CPU to an i5 3570k CPU, and I must say that Intel has gained another convert. This CPU will chew through any game, and I get much better performance than I ever did with the 955--the 3570k simply blows AMD out of the water. I do not do any sort of image editing or video encoding, so this review is written entirely from a gamer's perspective.PROS:-Great for extremely CPU-intensive games like the Total War games (Empire and Shogun 2 in particular). These games are fairly difficult to run smoothly at very high graphics settings due in large part to incredible (but demanding) particle effects, high unit density, shadow effects and many others, but the 3570k has no problems handling Empire at max settings (assuming you have a decent GPU to boot).-I get much higher frame-rates and better performance in games like Crysis, Crysis 2, BF3, Max Payne 3, Empire: Total War, and Deus Ex 3 as well as older games like FEAR, Half-Life 2 and Rome: Total War.-Achieves an overclock of 4.3-4.6GHz without much trouble at all (I've got mine at 4.5 GHz), at least on a Gigabyte Z77-UD3H motherboard.-Using the Gigabyte Z77-UD3H MB I managed to OC to 4.3GHz with no stability issues at stock CPU Vcore voltage (1.13 V).-Built-in Turbo boost feature clocks the 3570k up to 3.8GHz--which is a pretty decent boost and would be a good option for gamers who are uncomfortable with messing with BIOS settings to OC their CPUs.-Almost identical to the 3770K in terms of gaming performance. Benchmark scores for a number of games show marginal (if any) improvements for the 3770k. Other benchmarks and certain games like the Total War series actually see improved frame-rates with the 3570k versus the 3770k.CONS:-It does run somewhat hot--I get temps in the high 70s, low 80s (deg C) with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (with Arctic Silver 5 TIM) at 4.5GHz and 1.35 Volts. However, IB CPUs are designed to withstand more heat, so this is not a huge issue, but it may warrant considering a pricier cooler if you want to OC to around 5 GHz or higher.OVERALL: The 3570k is an excellent CPU for any game on the market with a great performance-to-price ratio. Virtually all gaming performance benchmarks that you will find give near identical results for the 3570k and 3770k, so I would save yourself $100 and take the 3570K over the 3770k and put that money into a better graphics card or an SSD. If you already have a 2500k I would say that a 3570k is not worth the upgrade, but if you have anything older or are looking to switch over to Intel from AMD I would highly recommend it!My PC specs:Gigabyte Z77-UD3H MBi5 3570k OC'd to 4.5GHz with Cooler Master 212 EVO + AS5 TIMEVGA GeForce GTX 680 2GB on stock settingsCrucial M4 256GB SSDCorsair Vengeance 1600MHz 8GB DDR3 RAM

5Wow.
By bob
I am very impressed with this CPU. "Slick" is the word that comes to mind. THe stuff on paper about the native PCIe rev.3, and the new memory control circuit....etc. It looks good on paper. "These numbers are better than those numbers, this is different than that...." Well I put one of these into my computer...the one I use everyday, and haven't really upgraded for a while. I build i7s and Xeons, opterons, and Phenoms.......everyday. I get them to work, feed them an OS, drivers, applications, burn them in, package them and ship them out. I never really do 'my' work on them. (kinda like the shoemakers kids). I went back and forth between the i7s, the 2011 socket....but since this had been a bare bones bullet proof unit, I decided to go with the i5....something that would do what I needed it to do, and NEVER fail.So I put this into an AsRock Extreme 4. Put my old hardware in there. Moved the drives over, loaded the drivers, and fired it up. Holy $^%t! All of that stuff on paper...forget it. What a kick. Real SATAIII is way faster than a SATAIII card. The graphics....wow! I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. This is a total computing experience. Again, I build cutting edge stuff for a living. So I'm kind of numb to this type of stuff. But when it was MY desktop flying around like that (Upgrade was from a core 2 quad).......I was an end user again, and a very happy one at that.(just one tech note: You have to have a z77 or better southbridge to make all the newer stuff on the gen. 3 Intels to work)

55 stars for CPU, 3 stars for CPU cooler
By Kobad
The CPU itself is great! I overclocked it to 4.2 Ghz, and my gaming DIY PC was a star! The integrated graphics without the drivers are horrible. But installing the drivers makes all the difference: 1.0 (without drivers)->6.7 (with drivers) on the Windows Experience Index (rating from 1.0 to 7.9) for graphics and gaming! It was even better than my ATi Radeon HD 6450! (It scored 4.4 and 4.6, for Aero and Gaming, respectively)But the CPU cooler was the only con. And it was a biggie. I can take Intel's side in saying most people don't like the risk of overclocking. But then again, this is an unlocked CPU that was meant for overclocking! The temperatures were 35 Celsius idle, 70 Celsius while gaming, at 3.4Ghz (Turbo Boost was off). But going to 4.2 Ghz meant 65 Celsius idle, and 100+ Celsius doing simple browsing! Of course, I turned the PC off immediately and never used it again until I installed a different Cooler Master CPU cooler.Though I recommend the CPU, I think you should order a Hyper 212 Plus or some other CPU fan with it.EDIT: Even though the included fan was bad, the Rocketfish one I ordered was even worse. Due to this I am changing my review to 5 stars.EDIT2: Actually, the fan is pretty good if you don't use the CPU in the background (antivirus and BOINC). The temperatures are 10 Celsius lower than with BOINC running.

4Excellent value
By Dick Oliver
I bought twelve of these for my digital arts studio. Overall, I'm very happy with them and even more happy with the excellent sale price I got at Amazon.com.Pros:* Rock-solid, beautifully saturated and bright image quality.* Easy to use controls and driver disk (which you may need for optimum resolution on some computers)* Kinda sexy multi-colored indicator light below the screen changes from blue (on) to amber (sleep) to off.* Sturdy, adjustable stand which attaches easily.* Just the right amount of "matte" finish to avoid the annoying glare and "mirror" effect that some screens have, without any sacrifice of brightness or clarity.Cons:* As with most LCD screens, colors shift somewhat with viewing angle. If you are a graphics design or video editing shop with exacting color calibration requirements, buy a (much) more expensive IPS screen if you can. (I couldn't afford a decent IPS screen, and this inexpensive monitor reproduces color BETTER than many "bargain" IPS screens.)* I find the (permanent) large white lettering on the lower bevel rather annoying, even though you stop noticing it after a while.* The screen is actually TOO bright for most environments even in daylight. I turned the brightness down to zero and it's acceptable, but only because I never use the units at night or in a dimly lit room. You may want to use gamma correction software (such as adobe gamma or the Windows 7 settings) to dim the screen more than the monitor controls alone will achieve.* One out of twelve units I ordered was dead on arrival. (Amazon promptly refunded my money.)* Because the touch controls are on the corner of the screen, the screen wiggles when you use them. Not a big problem (how often do you use them anyway?) but mildly irritating.* Be aware that some older video cards may not support 1920x1080 resolution. That's not a problem with the screen, but be sure you have an appropriate driver before you upgrade to any new screen!Overall, I did a lot of shopping around and this is a terrific deal if you can get it for under $200. I couldn't find anything comparable in quality for that price.

4Thoughts of a Programmer & Web/Print Designer
By Allen
I purchased this monitor because I wanted a 22 inch monitor and I didn't want to spend more than $200.Initial impressions. This thing is light in weight. Very light. I was able to hold the monitor in one hand/arm and use my other hand to set the base and plug in the power and dvi cable without a much strain. The base is made of plastic and feels cheap. That was my first reaction, when I unwrapped the base. Once I had it on the monitor though it did it's job. This combination though makes the monitor easily wobble if it is not sitting on a sturdy desk/table, keep that in mind. (My desk is very sturdy, so this wasn't an issue.) It comes with a VGA/DVI cable, which was a pleasant surprise.I'm a programmer. This monitor arrived at my place of work and as soon as it came, I immediately replaced one of my monitors and worked the whole day with it. It was easy on the eyes and I could see myself using this as my daily programming monitor. It also made my other Dell monitor look old because this monitor has great contract and was bright. Pictures and text looked great on the screen. At the end of the day I did notice that this monitor gives off very little heat, very nice. Had I based my purchasing decision on this experience, it would have been a keeper.I'm delving into web/print design. Here's where I have an issue with the monitor. I'm working on some website and print designs and I need the colors to reproduce accurately on the screen. I know that all LCD monitors change color saturation/contrast when looking at the monitor at an angle, however, I noticed that when I look at this monitor directly, the color was too washed out, where to me, it didn't accurately reproduce the color at the angle that it should produce the color contrast/saturation the best (or really close to it). Normally I wouldn't care for this, but I need the color to look accurate. I played around with the monitor brightness/contrast/color and that didn't fix the problem. I played around with my NVidia desktop color settings and I couldn't fix the problem. Lastly I compared this monitor with another 22 inch LCD and it only confirmed my findings.Conclusion.If you are considering purchasing this monitor for normal use, i.e. web surfing, document editing watching movies, then by all means don't hesitate to purchase it, it's a good monitor for the price. As a programmer/normal user, I would give this monitor 4 stars. As a web/print designer, I would give this monitor 3 stars. Since I have to use it in designer mode, then I could not keep the monitor, so I returned it.

5Crisp and clear - and you don't have to mess with the settings!
By Tate
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1BJIUX770ZV1X First of all the video doesn't even come close to showing the clarity this screen provides, but I hope it's slightly helpful in that you can see the size better in comparison to a desk and stuff. Now about this beautiful monitor. I admit I've only been looking at it for about a week, but so far my eyes couldn't be happier. LED screens are clearly going to be the future. They look beautiful and save energy and space, and the screen is SO thin! Setup was a breeze - I just connected it to my desktop. The monitor comes with both DVI and VGA cables, but since my desktop had an HDMI output I bought a Premium High Resolution 10FT / 3m 24K GOLD HDMI TO DVI M/M CABLE FOR HDTV PLASMA DVD that uses the HDMI from my Desktop into the DVI in the monitor. I doubt I really needed to buy this, compared the cable with just the regular DVI to DVI and it still looked great, though it did seem a dash clearer (it could be my imagination). Also, when shopping around and reading reviews of other monitors (especially LED) I noticed several customers complaining that it took a lot of setting switches to get the screen to look right.. with this monitor (at least for me) the picture looked perfect right from the start up. It does let you change the contrast and such, but I haven't dared to mess with them because I think it looks perfect as is.About the sound.. I watch a lot of movies on my computer and listen to a lot of music, so imagining using a monitor's built in sound system horrifies me, but if you don't care about a high quality stereo system, I listened to the speakers and they'll do just fine.So my overall review is an A+ thumbs up. I spent hours looking at monitors at Best Buy and on Amazon and anywhere else that sells them and I think I made a great choice with this ViewSonic. Granted, I've only had it a handful of days, but hopefully I won't have to revise this review for at least 3 years (that's how long the warranty is). If you have any other questions about the screen or would like to see a different video just leave a comment and I'll try to help you out!**4 Month Update** - Just thought I'd let you guys know it's been nearly 4 months now and my 5 star review still stands so far. Absolutely no dead pixels, and absolutely no problems. Unlike other LEDs I've seen in the store, the stand on this is very sturdy and has never even hinted at falling over. My comp doesn't have a blu ray player, but I watched some 1080p stuff online and it is noticably spectacular on this screen. And now I see Amazon is selling it even cheaper than what I paid for it ($189) so I can't recommend it enough!

4Good but only if you can get it at the right price
By Technologist
First of all, the Samsung 840 uses triple-level cell (TLC) memory vs. the multi-level cell (MLC) memory used for almost all other SSDs. So what is the difference between TLC and MLC? With TLC memory, 3 bits of information (8 possible values) are stored per cell instead of the 2 bits (4 possible values) in MLC memory. This might sound better but it also means that the cells are used more and there is less voltage fault tolerance. In the most simple terms, you can think of cells being "filled" or "emptied" by applying voltage. When 3 bits (8 possible values) of information are stored per cell, the SSD may have to apply voltage to the entire cell multiple times even though just one bit of information is encoded (depending on the bit being changed). The multiple voltage applications to each cell also slows down the write speeds and causes more wear in general.Performance-wise, the Samsung 840 is actually worse than the previous generation Samsung 830. On the Passmark benchmarks, it is slightly lower than the OCZ Agility 4 which uses asynchronous MLC NAND flash.Right now, the top three SSDs (best selling and best reviews) on Amazon are the OCZ Vertex 4, Samsung 830, and the Crucial M4. However, all three of these SSDs are cheaper and they perform better than the Samsung 840. Eventually, the TLC NAND should mean that the Samsung 840 will sell for less because less NAND is used. However, it is not worth it right now. To be safe, I would say that you should wait until the drive is at least 10-20% cheaper than the three drives above due to the uncertainty of how it will perform in the long run.One puzzling thing is that I couldn't find any mean time before failure (MTBF) estimates for the 840, while the MTBF for the 20nm MLC based 840 Pro is 1.5 million hours (lower than the 2 million hours for many 25nm MLC drives). Also, it is interesting that the drives are not 128GB, 256GB, 512GB. There are probably three reasons for this. The TLC NAND manufacturing process has lower yields so they have to "turn off" a portion of the cells to account for this. This is similar to what Nvidia does for their GPUs (16 functional streaming multiprocessors become GTX 580, 14-15 functional streaming multiprocessors become a GTX 570, etc...) Another possibility is that they anticipate that there will be more wear to the TLC NAND so that there is an unused memory bank to replace any dead cells. The third and most likely reason is a combination of the two, i.e. a portion of the turned off cells are nonfunctional due to the new manufacturing process and the remaining portion of the turned off cells are reserved for replacement.I handle tech purchase decisions for my department and so I bought one Samsung 840 to test for due diligence but won't buy more until they become much cheaper.-------------------------------------------------------12/4/12 UpdateAs predicted, these drives dropped in price quite a bit. TLC NAND is about 25% cheaper than MLC NAND so that the price of these drives should converge to a ratio of around 75% of the price of a MLC SSD in the long run.

4Corsair vs Crucial vs OCZ vs Samsung vs SanDisk - MacBook Pro Review
By Orlandoech
5My old macbook moves......>>>>
By SOu
I have the very first Macbook (intel core duo), and kicked myself back in 2006, when the duo core 2 model was released a month later.Anyway I held on to my Macbook, and it has been used every single day since.I decided to replace the original 60G toshiba hard drive, and what a blessing. My Macbook uses SATA 1, rated for 1.5 Gb/s, this drive is SATA III, rated for 6 Gb/s. Therefore, I expected marginal performance. So here is marginal for ya:Start-up, literally 20 seconds, nearly instant shutdowns. Apps open very fast, internet web pages load a lot faster, especially with graphics and java/javascripts/flashI'm using MAC OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), TRIM is enabled, but only for Apple hard drives. A nice program called "Trim Enabler" the old version (1.2), will modify a few kernel extensions to get it to work for you. You need put in your favorite search engine "Trim Enabler 32-bit Support". Be careful not to upgrade to 10.7 / 10.8 with the 32-bit software installed.Hopefully I can get 6 more years outta my Mac. :)

4Great Monitor
By James Kebinger
I've had this monitor for a few days. My first impressions are very good. Screen is great with no dead pixels and even lighting.Pros:Great pictureLooks goodCons (and these I expected):Stand isn't adjustable verticallySpeakers sound terrible. (tinny, which is to be expected on a monitor this skinny)There's a gotcha I experienced hooking up my Macbook Pro via a Display Port to HDMI adapter. At first, choosing the 1080p resolution produces an image that's too large for the screen - that is the edges are chopped off. Adjusting the under/overscan slider makes it fit, but at the expense of being fuzzy. The solution is in the monitor's setting, under input select, each HDMI input has an AV/PC setting. Mine were set to AV by default. Switching that to PC made the image fit perfectly with no fuzzies.

4All in All a Great Monitor
By Jamm
Having upgraded to a 24" VA2431 (non-LED) ViewSonic at the office, was enough to embark on a 27"-monitor-for-home-quest that would better its performance. After enough research, the final contenders were narrowed down to the Samsung S27A550H (LED) and the ViewSonic VX2753mh-LED; however the Samsung was nixed due to reported light bleed and stand issues, the lack of forward tilt, as well as enough users citing poorly rendered text. Not having seen it in the flesh, the latter may be attributed to among other things: user inability to select Samsung's PC Mode. Nonetheless after receiving the ViewSonic, I:A. Hooked it up to a desktop system (E4500 Core 2 CPU, XP Sp3, XFX ATI Radeon HD6670 1 GB DDR5 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card HD667XZAF3) via D-Sub.B. Installed the software.C. Used the interface buttons on the monitor to access the monitor's setup menu and changed it to "PC Mode".D. Accessed ATI's Catalyst Control Center to change the overscan to 0% - to better fill the viewable space.E. Went back into the monitor's setup menu and changed the: * Horizontal Size until the image went corner-to-corner. * Operation of the front bezel LED to turn off when the panel was in use (a nice feature). * Brightness and contrast settings to yield a more pleasing image. * LCD response time to Advanced.F. Switched to the included HDMI Cable. The results were well delineated text (without adjusting Microsoft's ClearType text), smooth motion, good contrast, very nice detail and an overall image that popped when source material was up to it (and I haven't adjusted Fine Tune and Sharpness yet)!Though I have the front bezel LED turned off when the panel is in use, it does glow a brighter than needed amber when the monitor is in standby. So with a reasonable disdain for needless light pollution from equipment in my environment, I used a Sharpie along the bottom surface of the LED fascia which dimmed output by roughly 50%. That notwithstanding, a design team more on the ball would have made it dimmable in user-selectable steps. It's interesting to note that when a Dell XPS15 Laptop was connected to the ViewSonic, the image was somewhat faded compared to the XPS' 1080P panel (or the XFX desktop video card for that matter); however a few adjustments took care of that in short order. Speaking of laptops and ViewSonic monitors: the home and the work laptops (both I7-2620M CPU Win7 64 machines from different manufacturers) use Intel's HD 3000 integrated video hardware and kick over to an Nvidia adapter when needed. On the work PC/VA2431 monitor combination I needed to make adjustments to ClearType text so characters appeared as anomaly free as possible. The VX2753' on the other hand needed no such adjustment from either the home desktop or laptop with text looking so far the best I've seen. Also noteworthy is when I tested for video judder at home (desktop) and work (laptop) using VLC Media Player and The Incredibles, the number of occurrences was unfortunately way too high; and with the VLC too unstable in both locations: I uninstalled it. In both locations I installed the Essentials Codec Pack (free @ mediacodec.org) and (with that came) Media Player Classic - Home Cinema Player; and though judder through MPC-HC or Windows Media Player (which couldn't play a movie until I installed the codec pack) was greatly reduced, it still happened on the home desktop. Using either player on the work PC after the ECP install and the problem was gone almost entirely. It wasn't until I switched to an old standby of PowerDVD 7 at home that the movie looked as good (lack of judder-wise) as the work PC running either MPC-HC or WMP. Though I haven't tried testing movies on the Dell Laptop, I realized the judder problems were not attributable to the monitor at a 60Hz refresh rate. What I'm getting at is this: any display problems attributed to a correctly operating VX2753' will boil down to: user error and/or upstream hardware/software issues - not the monitor.Dislikes1. If installed, the included software seems nothing more than wasted drive space as the "drivers" appear to be useless and a monitor configuration utility is not included.2. Because of the above, one relies on the menu buttons which are harder to press than needed and provides little in the way of tactile differentiation.3. Unfortunately those buttons are on the right side bezel, so those wanting two or more of the monitors side-by-side, will find menu access more inconvenient; therefore, they should've been placed on the bottom bezel.4. Certain features (Horizontal Size, Fine Tune, etc.) are only available when using a D-Sub Cable.5. From what little I saw of it, the dynamic contrast is detrimental...6. The front LED is a bit bright though it's easily fixed.7. The large and unnecessary HDMI lettering on the front bezel (fortunately becomes mostly innocuous when using the monitor).8. The speakers are somewhere just above two cans and a string.9. As a discerning product designer and user, it's easy to see that the lettering, LED, software, button placement and functionality are hits an otherwise outstanding product takes when less than talented product team members spill their lack of ability on it. Therefore there's a corresponding hit on pride of ownership.Likes1. Due to the screen size, it's easy to read two documents side-by-side.2. No dead pixels.3. Panel can be supported via stand or "kickstand".4. The base connects securely to the "kickstand" via wing nut.5. The stand is very supportive and stable.6. No back-light bleed.7. Evenly lit across the panel.8. Imparts a great deal of graphics detail.9. Text is extremely crisp and evenly rendered.10. Selectable LCD Response Time (VS quotes the time it takes a pixel to go from black to white to black [in milliseconds], which is more stringent than the common G2G [gray-to-gray in milliseconds]).11. At the "Advanced" (2ms?) LCD response setting, motion is very linear without artifacts that I can detect.12. Front bezel LED can be configured to turn off when the panel is in use.13. Due to LED backlighting and associated circuitry driving the panel, this model (according to the website) typically consumes 20 watts (presumably when in use as opposed to an average of in-use and standby times); however, the manual states 36 watts.14. Uses less than 1 watt in Standby.15. The panel can tilt forward 5 degrees (helpful in my setup).16. 1200:1 contrast ratio is the best spec. I've seen for 27" panels.17. One of the brighter panels at 300 cd/m2.18. Very good color saturation.19. Relatively light weight.20. HDMI and D-Sub cables come with it.21. Surprisingly the HDMI Cable fits snuggly at both ends.22. Very good viewing angles for a TN panel.23. 3 year warranty.24. Generates very little heat.25. Mac compatible.26. Considering all of the above, it may be one of the best 27" 1080P monitors under $1,000.00. It is so good at rendering text, graphics and motion, that those considering spending much more may think twice about their prospective purchase after reading this and/or seeing one setup to their liking. With the quest over and the novelty of having upgraded from a 19" Samsung to the 27" ViewSonic still intact, some very cool free software was put into service. First the desktop was cleared of any icons, and RocketDock was installed (RocketDock.Com) along with icons I chose from their site. Next I downloaded Wallpaper Cycler Lite (Download.CNET.Com), made a few categories, then sourced some excellent (and also free) HD wallpaper from HDwallpapers. In and Desktopnexus.Com. With RocketDock and the XP Taskbar set to auto-hide, the rest is unfettered HD eye candy - once a minute - until the PC is needed or put in standby.Enjoy your monitor.

5Great Display
By Emily Wind
This monitor has taken some flack for the way it sounds, so I will review this first. As far as sound goes, the built-in speakers are not very nice sounding from what I tried of them, although this was without the included software which is intended to improve their sound output. However, fitting amazing speakers in such a tight place as this really thin monitor is not possible due to the reality of sound production requiring a certain speaker size to produce various frequencies due to simple physics of vibration creation. If you want good sound though, all you have to do is buy a nice, inexpensive pair of computer speakers such as Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer and plug them into the sound output on the back of the monitor and it will route all of the sound input from the HDMI into them, which is quite nice. That said, keep in mind that first and foremost you are purchasing an LCD monitor. Its true purpose is to display your desktop, images, videos and etc from your computer (or your Xbox 360, PS3, Blu-Ray player and etc), not to play sound. In that realm, as far as 24" monitors go from what I have seen and used, this is simply the best I have seen when compared to displays from vendors such as ASUS and Apple. The colours are extremely vivid and the viewing angles are very nice (can see movies/games from the extreme sides). The back-lighting is perfectly balanced, non-bleeding and it is great for watching HD movies as well as playing games or doing standard web browsing. It is also extremely thin and light despite being 24".In short, if you are considering buying this monitor; do.
